Throwing a Restaurant Week is one good sign, but those deal-laden events are fairly common now in many cities (and thank goodness, too; saving money is rather great).

It’s when you keep your Restaurant Week and you add onto it. You add on Cheeseburger Week in the winter and SIP-tember in the late summer and other special to-dos that highlight specific dishes, drinks, and yes, even the memory and spirt of the wonderful Julia Child.

And with that we just gave a hint as to the city we’re about to salute. It’s the hometown of Ms. Child, Pasadena, which is gearing up for its annual Restaurant Week. That kicks off on Sunday, April 21 and ends on Friday, April 26.

SIP-tember: a celebration of the cocktail arrives for the second time this year on August 15th as we celebrate the anniversary of Pasadena’s own Julia Child with a citywide cocktail party. The Julia Child Cocktail Party kicks off the SIP-tember Cocktail Bracket Challenge, a six week head-to-head competition that pits Pasadena’s finest cocktails against each other. SIP-tember culminates in a live final taste-off on September 26th an a soon-to-be-disclosed special site.

Celebrate the birthplace of America's favorite food during Pasadena Cheeseburger Week every January

to hamburger and serve it at the Rite Spot in Pasadena in 1924.

Forty of Pasadena’s favorite restaurants, lounges and burger joints offer their signature burgers, some special creations and a deals  during Pasadena Cheeseburger Week.

We celebrated the invention of America’s favorite food in its birthplace during Pasadena  Cheeseburger Week January 13th to 18th, 2013.

Voting in the Cheeseburger Challenge ended on January 21st. You can view the results by clicking here.

For 2013, we added several restaurants, and some participants included special menu items or deals for patrons during Cheeseburger Week.

Let’s all salute Lionel Sternberger for his mastery, insight, pioneering innovation and daring in placing a piece of cheese atop a hamburger for the first time in recorded culinary history at his father’s roadside stand, the Rite Spot at 1500 West Colorado Boulevard in Pasadena.

The Pasadena Chamber of Commerce will  host the third Cheeseburger Week and Cheeseburger Challenge January 12th to 17th, 2014. Once again, you’ll be able to vote for your favorites in a number of categories, from traditional lunch counter burgers to white table cloth an alternative cheeseburgers. We’ll also have an alternative cheeseburger category or two, as well.

Plan to come to Pasadena for a Cheeseburger Crawl, take the Cheeseburger Challenge and celebrate Lionel Sternberger’s culinary legacy in the city where the cheeseburger was first served.

Pasadena Sinks Its Teeth into Cheeseburger Week NBC Southern California

 

 

Results are in and voters at the SIP-tember Finale have made their decision. With 37% of the vote, the Ruth’s Chris Steak House Broad Street Hurricane was chosen the Pasadena Cocktail of the Year 2012.

Pasadena Chamber Board Members CL Keedy and Tom Daly presented the 2012 Cocktail of the Year trophy to Linda Jordan, Mike Dane and Kenny Luu of Ruth's Chris Steak House.

The SIP-tember cocktail bracket challenge is an annual six week long competition among Pasadena Chamber of Commerce member restaurants and lounges. Competitors serve drinks that are paired against each other in a competition.

In our inaugural year, 64 cocktails, ranging from drinks specially concocted for the competition to margaritas and sangria, began the competition that lasted six weeks and culminated in the live taste-off of the four drinks that won their brackets.

SIP-tember kicked off on August 15th with the Citywide Cocktail Party to honor the 100th anniversary of the birth of Pasadena’s own Julia Child. SIP-tember is a collaboration of the Pasadena Chamber of Commerce and our restaurant members. Sponsors of SIP-tember are the City of Pasadena, Merill Lynch/Bank of America and the Pasadena Chamber of Commerce.

We also supported JC100 events in Pasadena. JC100 events took place nationwide to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Birth of Julia Child. Participants offered menu items prepared from or inspired by Julia Child’s cookbooks and recipes. Others featured special events to celebrate America’s first celebrity chef and the woman who first brought gourmet cooking to television audiences and popularized French cuisine with her collaboration on Mastering the Art of French Cooking.

Come out to Pasadena on August 15th as we raise our glasses and toast America’s first (and Pasadena own) celebrity chef Julia Child on the 100th anniversary of her birth. Restaurants and bars throughout Pasadena will be hosting a toast and grand cocktail party commemorating the birth of Julia Child. Organized by the Pasadena Chamber of Commerce with restaurants and bars all over the city, Pasadena hosts a giant indoor cocktail party. America’s first culinary celebrity to be toasted at restaurants throughout Pasadena as a kick-off for SIP-tember cocktail bracket challenge.

Pasadena’s restaurants and lounges invite everyone to come to Pasadena and enjoy a citywide cocktail party on August 15, 2012, to celebrate the 100^th anniversary of the birth of America’s first culinary celebrity, Pasadena’s own Julia Child.

Pasadena’s Citywide Julia Child Cocktail Party will take place in restaurants all over Pasadena, culminating in a simultaneous toast at 7:00pm. The event is sponsored and organized by the Pasadena Chamber of Commerce with support from the City of Pasadena and Merrill Lynch/Bank of America.

On August 15^th, many of Pasadena’s restaurants will host cocktail parties to commemorate Julia Child’s contribution to fine cuisine and culinary arts, as well as her birth and childhood in Pasadena. Festivities will take place in restaurants throughout the city, with some even offering up specially created cocktails and dishes in tribute to Julia Child. We wanted to find a way to celebrate Julia Child’s 100^th, and the Citywide Cocktail Party on August 15^th was a natural way to kick off the SIP-tember Celebration of the Cocktail and our Cocktail Bracket Challenge. During SIP-tember, 64 cocktails from various places throughout Pasadena will be paired in an online bracket competition with patrons voting for their favorite from among the paired drinks until we have four finalists. The four finalists will face off in a live tasting at Paseo Colorado on September 27^th.

Cocktail pairings for the SIP-tember Bracket Challenge were announced on August 2nd.

The Pasadena celebration of Julia Child’s birthday is being organized by the Pasadena Chamber of Commerce with our participating restaurants. Pasadena’s restaurant community opens its doors to guests from throughout Southern California for the first Pasadena Restaurant Week. The Pasadena Chamber and the Pasadena Restaurant Association are sponsoring the event which takes place from Sunday, March 27th through Friday, April 1st. Pasadena Restaurant Week is a citywide event featuring the cuisine of many of Pasadena’s top dining establishments. Restaurants that are participating include some of Pasadena’s finest and most unique eating destinations including   Bar Celona, Celestino Ristorante, Crepe Studio, Derek’s Bistro, El Cholo, Elements Kitchen, El Portal, Green Street Restaurant, Malbec, Maria’s Italian Kitchen, Mijares, Pie ‘n Burger, Robin’s Woodfire BBQ and Grill, Roy’s, The Terrace at the Langham Huntingon Hotel and Spa, Trevo’s at the Hilton, Villa Sorriso and X-Tapa.
